Correctional Facilities <br /> <br />The City has submitted the required Community-Based Corrections Plan and Planning Study <br />to the Department of Corrections in order to obtain State assistance in the construction of a <br />new correctional facility. Given that the DOC staff will not present this project to the <br />Corrections Board for approval until its January 1998 meeting, it may be necessary to have a <br />budget amendment bill introduced regarding the State's share of the project. <br /> <br /> Compensation Board Funding <br /> <br />It is requested that the Compensation Board funding for the City Commonwealth's Attorneys <br />Office be increased to include one additional full-time attorney and that funding be provided to <br />cover the salaries of four positions in the Sheriffs Department which are currently 100% <br />locally funded. City Manager Reynolds stated that the City covers almost as many cases per <br />year as neighboring Henry County. Senator Reynolds agreed with the request of Council and <br />stated that he would do everything possible to obtain approval by the State. <br /> <br /> Emergency Medical Services <br /> <br />It is requested that funding for Emergency Medical Services be increased through adoption of <br />the "Four-for-l,ife" motor vehicle registration program. Currently, the State's EMS system is <br />funded through the "Two-for-Life" legislation that was enacted in 1990. Senator Reynolds <br />said that he supports this request. <br /> <br /> Transportation <br /> <br />It is imperative that VDOT be given a mandate to expedite the Super 58 project west of <br />Martinsville to Interstate 77, the Liberty/Clearview project within the City limits, and the <br /> <br /> <br />
