84
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 2, 1997

a loop throughout the City, and this cable would be capable of carrying voice, video, and data information to

link all City and School facilities together. Benefits cited from the enhanced system included better and more
reliable communications, reduced communications cost, expanded communications capability, positive impact
on a wide variety of City and School System activities and strong enhancement of economic development
potential for the entire City. When asked by the Mayor if there were funds available to pay for the proposed
system enhancement City Manager Reynolds assured Council that funds would be made available during the
project period to cover all costs. Council then voiced their unanimous consensus of support for the enhanced,
SONNETT Loop project, and asked to be kept informed of progress on the project.

Under items not on the agenda, Mayor Adams asked whether or not provisions had been made to preserve the
security and condition of the W. M. Bassett facility recently donated to the City. City Manager Reynolds
assured Council that measures would be taken to accomplish these requirements. The Mayor also asked when
Council might get an update on the COP Program from the Police Department, at which point Mr. Reynolds
distributed a written report on this subject.

There being no further business, Mayor Adams adjourned the meeting.

Ge _- B A ams, r. , M~ ~/~
