THURSDAY, OCTOBER 2, 1997 <br />A special and duly-called meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor George B. <br /> <br />Adams, Jr. presiding, was held Thursday, October 2, 1997, in the Lower Level Conference Room, City Hail, <br />beginning at 10:30 A.M. The purpose of the meeting was a Work Session. The following members of Council <br />were present: George B. Adams, Jr., Mayor; Dr. Mark A. Crabtree, Vice-Mayor; Bruce H. T. Dailas; <br />Elizabeth H. Haskell; and M. Gene Teague. <br /> <br />31 <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, the members of Council waived their normal, per- <br />meeting pay for this work session. <br /> <br />The first 'item on Council's agenda was an Executive Session. Consequently, in accordance with Section 2.1- <br />344 (A) of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended) and upon motion duly seconded, and by <br />unanimous recorded vote, Council convened in Executive Session for the purpose of discussing the following <br />matter: Possible acquisition of property for public use, as authorized by Subsection 3. <br /> <br />At the conclusion of this Executive Session each member of Council certified that (1) only public business <br />matters exempt from open meeting requirements were discussed in said Executive Session; and (2) only those <br />business matters identified in the motion convening the Executive Session were heard, discussed, or <br />considered during said Session. Following their return to open session Council took no action on the <br />Executive Session item discussed. <br /> <br />Council next considered a briefing and demonstration regarding mobile data computers related to technology <br />for the Police Department. Those present to provide this briefing and other information/support included <br />Chief David Edwards and Major Charles Long of the Martinsville Police Department, Mr. Henry Gilbert of <br />the Martinsville-Henry County 911 Center, Mr. Giles Smith, communications technician, and William Blewett <br />of Cerulean Technology, Inc. ChiefEdwards first provided information on the Edward Byme Grant from the <br /> <br /> <br />
