THURSDAY, OCTOBER 2, 1997 A special and duly-called meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor George B. Adams, Jr. presiding, was held Thursday, October 2, 1997, in the Lower Level Conference Room, City Hail, beginning at 10:30 A.M. The purpose of the meeting was a Work Session. The following members of Council were present: George B. Adams, Jr., Mayor; Dr. Mark A. Crabtree, Vice-Mayor; Bruce H. T. Dailas; Elizabeth H. Haskell; and M. Gene Teague. 31 Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, the members of Council waived their normal, per- meeting pay for this work session. The first 'item on Council's agenda was an Executive Session. Consequently, in accordance with Section 2.1- 344 (A) of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended) and upon motion duly seconded, and by unanimous recorded vote, Council convened in Executive Session for the purpose of discussing the following matter: Possible acquisition of property for public use, as authorized by Subsection 3. At the conclusion of this Executive Session each member of Council certified that (1) only public business matters exempt from open meeting requirements were discussed in said Executive Session; and (2) only those business matters identified in the motion convening the Executive Session were heard, discussed, or considered during said Session. Following their return to open session Council took no action on the Executive Session item discussed. Council next considered a briefing and demonstration regarding mobile data computers related to technology for the Police Department. Those present to provide this briefing and other information/support included Chief David Edwards and Major Charles Long of the Martinsville Police Department, Mr. Henry Gilbert of the Martinsville-Henry County 911 Center, Mr. Giles Smith, communications technician, and William Blewett of Cerulean Technology, Inc.
