Tardy <br /> <br />WHEREAS, these individuals helped to further the cause of world peace while risking their <br />own lives and returned home on September 13, 1997; now, therefore, <br /> <br />/~"'BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular session <br /> assembled September 23, 1997, that said Council does hereby recognize, welcome home, <br /> and thank the above~mentioned individuals for their selfless dedication to their country as <br /> well as the freedom of all nations. <br /> <br />Council next conducted a Neighborhood Town Meeting for the purpose of hearing matters of interest and <br />concern from the residents of the immediate surrounding area of the Middle School, as well as the residents <br />of the City at large. Mrs. Brenda Prillaman, Customer Service Representative for the City, provided <br />background on her report documenting the nature and frequency of calls and complaints relative to the <br />neighborhood during the past year. She stated that of 150 complaints/calls received, all but 31 had been <br />resolved, and those remaining were in progress toward resolution. City Manager Reynolds took the <br />opportunity to point out to Council that Mrs. Prillaman's efforts on behalf of the City residents had recently <br />received notice in the August, 1997 issue of Virginia Town & City Magazine. Councilmember Teague noted <br />that about half of the complaints reported had to do with property maintenance, and that, considering the <br />resolution percentage, our property maintenance code enforcement efforts must be working well. <br />Councilmember Dallas stated his high level of confidence in Mrs. Prillaman's ability to resolve problems when <br />they are brought to her. Mayor Adams then opened the public comment period for the Neighborhood Town <br />Meeting. Mr. Williams of 600 3ra St. stated that there was a bad sewer odor in his neighborhood, particularly <br />on damp nights, in the area beyond 3ra and 4th streets, toward the river. Mr. John Dyches, Director of Water <br />Resources for the City, stated that he had been in contact with Mr. Williams, and had been searching for the <br />source of the problem for a couple of years.
