TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 9~ 1997 <br /> <br />EXHIBIT A <br /> <br />ALL THOSE certain tracts or parcels of land lying and being in the City of Martinsville, Virginia, containing <br />approximately 65.53 acres of land, more or less, with improvements thereon, belonging to Bassett Furniture <br />Industries, Inc., and known as the W. M. Bassett Co. Facility, and generally shown on a plat attached hereto <br />as Schedule A-l; <br /> <br />LESS and except that certain tract of land described in a deed dated August 29, 1997, from Bassett Furniture <br />Industries, Inc., to Willard A. Jones and Pauline W. Jones, containing 1.036 acres and being shown on a <br />survey attached to such deed, which deed and survey are attached hereto as Schedule A-2. <br /> <br />Council next considered the need to conduct a Public Hearing on a proposed 'amendment to the City Code, as <br />provided in Ordinance No. 97-18, having to do with the addition of second-floor residential units in the <br />Central Business District as a Permitted Use within the Zoning Ordinance thereof. Mr. Wayne Knox, City <br />Planning, Housing and Zoning Manager, sated that those who attended the Planning Commission meeting at <br />which this amendment was discussed were all positive about the change, and that the Planning Commission <br />voted to recommend that Council approve this amendment to the Zoning Ordinance. Following brief <br />discussion, Mayor Adams opened the Public Hearing. Mr. Tim Martin, President of the Uptown Business <br />Association spoke in favor of the OrdinanCe, stating that it would be a positive change, and that he and other <br />Uptown business owners already had several ideas on the creation of dwellings that this change would allow. <br />He also stated that such Uptown residents would' promote activity in the area beyond the normal business <br />hours, which was also seen as positive. There being no further speakers on this matter, the Public Hearing <br />was closed. Upon motion duly seconded, and by unanimous vote, Council approved Ordinance No. 97-18, <br /> <br />upon first reading. <br /> <br />Council next considered the need to conduct a Public Hearing regarding proposed Ordinance No. 97-19, a <br />Zoning Ordinance change to the City Code, having to do with signs permitted in the C-2 Central Business <br />District.
