TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 1997 <br /> <br />above referenced Bonds. Upon motion duly seconded, and by unanimous vote, Council approved the setting <br /> <br />of the Public Hearing on this issue for September 23, 1997, on the occasion of the regularly scheduled <br />meeting on that date, at 7:00 PM. Clerk of Council stated at this time that necessary steps had already been <br />taken to properly advertise this Public Hearing, as required by law, and Mr. Reynolds noted that all related <br />advertising was paid for, to ensure proper publication and broadcast of the information. In follow-up to the <br />discussion, Mrs. Haskell asked what the current extent of bonded indebtedness of the City was, to which Mr. <br />Reynolds replied $5,000,000, all of which was Schools related, and currently provided for from Literary Fund <br />moneys. <br /> <br />Council next considered the need to adjust the evening's agenda, and enter into Executive Session at this time. <br />Consequently, in accordance with Section 2.1-344 (A) of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended) <br />and upon motion, duly seconded, and by unanimous recorded vote, Council then convened in Executive <br />Session for the purpose of discussing the following matters: (1) Possible acquisition of real property for <br />public use, as authorized by Subsection 3. ( Two items) <br /> <br />At the conclusion of this Executive Session, each member of Council certified that (1) only public business <br />matters exempt from open meeting requirements were discussed in said executive session; and (2) only those <br />business matters identified in the motion convening the Executive Session were heard, discussed, or <br />considered during said Session. <br /> <br />No action was taken by Council on either of the two items discussed in Executive Session. <br /> <br />Following the Executive Session, Council reconvened as City Council, and recessed from the Council <br />meeting. Council then convened in their capacity as the Martinsville Redevelopment and Housing Authority, <br />in order to Consider a donation from the Bassett Furniture Industries, Inc. of a large industrial property and <br /> <br /> <br />
