147 <br />THURSDAY, APR'rL 24, 1997 <br /> <br />A special and duly-called meeting of the Council of the City of <br />Martinsville, Virginia, was held Thursday, April 24, 1997, in the <br />Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 9:30 A.M. for the purpose of <br />continuing discussions on the proposed FY97-98 Budget. The following <br />members of Council were present: George B. Adams, Jr., Mayor; Mark A. <br />Crabtree, Vice-Mayor; Council Members Bruce H. T. Dallas, Elizabeth H. <br />Haskell, and M. Gene Teague. <br /> <br />In accordance with Section 2.1-344 (A) of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, <br />and as amended) and upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous <br />recorded vote, Council convened into Executive Session for the purpose <br />of discussing the following matters: three personnel matters under the <br />direction of the Council, as authorized by Subsection 1, and two <br />possible acquisition of real property for public use, as authorized by <br />Subsection 3. At the conclusion of this Executive Session, each member <br />of Council certified that (1) only public business matters exempt from <br />open meeting requirements were discussed in said Executive Session; and <br />(2) only those business matters identified in the motion convening the <br />Executive Session were heard, discussed or considered during said <br />Session. <br /> <br />It was noted that no action was taken on the three personnel matters <br />discussed; nor was any action taken on one of the matters related to <br />acqusition of real property for public use. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote Council declined an <br />offer by Southside Pool Association that the City purchase their pro- <br />perty for public use. Council asked City Manager Reynolds to write a <br />letter to Southside Pool Association stating this and suggest they seek <br /> <br /> <br />
