THURSDAY, APRIL 10, 1997 <br />In response to a question from Council Member Haskell, Dr. Trollinger <br />stated a technology instructor had been hired to instruct teachers on <br />the use of technology. Also in response to a question from Council <br />Member Haskell, Dr. Trollinger stated that the City's investment in <br />School Division technology as proposed would be of benefit in obtaining <br />funds from the private sector for this purpose. <br /> <br />In reviewing current expense items Dr. Trollinger stated he had <br />challenged his staff to think about what was preventing the School <br />Division from having the best possible program for its students. <br />8380,170 in additional expenses had resulted from this process, <br />however, over 8200,000 in current expenses had been redirected, <br />resulting in a request for 8172,000 in additional expenditures. <br /> <br />Dr. Trollinger distributed a memorandum prepared by Asst. <br />Superintendent for Business and Finance, Ronald Epperly, regarding the <br />financial impact of tuition students on the School Division. The <br />memorandum calculated a positive financial benefit of S424,413 <br />resulting from tuition students. <br /> <br />Dr. Trollinger reviewed the Five-Year Capital Improvement Plan for the <br />School Division. Capital needs were ranked according to importance, <br />with A+ items being designated as most important. A total of 8603,393 <br />in A+ items were listed for FY 97-98. In response to a question from <br />a member of Council, Dr. Trollinger stated the Council had appropriated <br />$100,000 in FY 96-97 for School Division capital needs. Dr. Trollinger <br />stated the School Board was also asking for approval to make <br />application for a $7.5 million Literary Fund loan for renovation of <br />Albert Harris School.
