162 <br /> <br /> TUESDAY. OCTOBER 13, 1998 <br />Set a public hearing on a Resolution of Commitment required for submission of an <br />application to the Virginia Economic Development Partnership for participation in the <br />Virginia Shell Building Initiative program. <br /> <br /> Under items not on the Agenda: <br /> <br /> Mayor Crabtree discussed the participation of he, Vice-Mayor Teague, City Manager Reynolds, <br />and Dr. Richard Rountree in the Legislative Commission on the Condition and Future of Cities meeting <br />held in Charlottesville, Virginia on October 13, 1998. Council discussed the purpose of the Commission <br />and its potential impact on key legislative action to help Cities in the Commonwealth. Citizens were <br />encouraged to contact their legislative representatives and ask them to provide full funding of House Bill <br />599 Police Block Grant monies. <br /> <br /> Mr. Lafayette Jones, a resident of the City, asked if the subject of measures to encourage young <br />persons to return to the City to live and work had been discussed at the meeting in Charlottesville. Mr. <br />Reynolds replied that the loss of populations and jobs in cities had been discussed. <br /> <br /> Mr. Reynolds noted that the next meeting of the Commission on the Condition and Future of <br />Cities was to be held in Danville, Virginia on November 5, 1998, and that the time and date conflicted <br />with Council's next scheduled work session. Cotmoil agreed to reschedule their work session for <br />November 12, 1998. <br /> <br /> Mayor Crabtree informed Council that he would be absent from the community on the following <br />Wednesday through Sunday, while attending the American Dental Association Conference. <br /> <br /> <br />
