Travis <br /> <br />WHEREAS, he committed himself fully to the goal of making Martinsville <br />a stronger, more diverse city through many forms of civil service; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, he worked as an organizer of the Voter's League of Martinsville <br />and Henry County where he helped to recruit and organize voters from Martinsville's <br />west side; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, he was a member of the first organized NAACP of Martinsville <br />and Henry County, and served on the first Welfare Board in Martinsville; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, he served as president of the Albert Harris Elementary School PT A <br />in the late 1950's, and served on the board of directors oflmperial Savings and Loan; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, he served his country and the community in the United States Marines <br />during World War II; now, therefore <br /> <br />For these significant reasons, I, Kathy C.
