<br />36 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />FEBRUARY 28, 1956 <br /> <br />confidence in the Council--Councilmen Walker and Turner st.ated that they <br /> <br />are now in favor of vrithdrawi.rg the proposed tax rate amendment; therefore, <br /> <br />COlLTlcil took no action with respe ct to the delegates t request. <br /> <br />The City Ma..'1B.ger called to the attention of the Counc il that the <br />three viewers who had been appointed in pursuance of Section 15-766 <br />of the Code of Virgin:ia as amended, had been dovm to the 10c2.tion <br />and looked over the proposed abandonment and discontinuance of that <br />part of the Dye Plant Road leading off of the East edge of Memorial <br />Boulevard near the South corporate limits of the City of <br />Martinsville, and lJmich said property propos ed to be abandoned and <br />discontinued is mace particularly described as follows, to wit: <br /> <br />"All tha t certain lot or parcel of real estate vrhich is situated <br />in the City of Martinsville, Virginia, and which is more <br />particularly des cdbed, to-wit: <br /> <br />BEGINNHn at a point on t11e Easterly side of U. S. Virginia <br />Highways Nos. 58 and 220, where same are interse cted at the <br />present tirre by the West line of the s aid Dye Plant Road, and <br />runniq:; from said beginning point and across the s aid former <br />Dye Plant Hoad, S. 660 59' w. 40.88 feet to an iron which <br />formerly marked the East boundary line between the East side of <br />the old Dye Plant Rood and the v. H. Ki.:::'by property now owned by <br />the City of MrrtinsvilJ.e (see Deed Book ]I;, page 24 of the City of <br />Martimville Clerk's Office); thence with what was formerl;y the <br />Eastern margin of the Dye Plant Road, S. 80 50 r E. 110.01 feet to <br />an iron on the Nortlmestern side of a street space as shown on map <br />hereinafter referred to; thence s. 430 46' w., cros sing the said <br />I}\Je Plant Road a[:;ain, 42.68 feet to an iron on vlhat was formerly <br />the Western margin of said DJ-e Plant Road and also the Eastern line <br />of the Texaco Service Station property owned 11.1 H. C. Lester, and <br />thence with 1'That was formerly the West nargin of the said I}\Je Plant <br />Road N. 110 28' W. 25.75 feet to an iron, and thence N. 8036'vr. <br />140.83 feet to tho poj_nt of beginning, being a strip of land that <br />was formerly lmovm as the Dye Plant Road. Specific reference is <br />made to a plat of saTJle prepared by W. C. Brcwn, C.L.S., entitled <br />"Eevision of Lot #1 Callie H. Ranson Subdivisionll, prepared in <br />July, 1955, and on record in the Current :![ap Book of the City of <br />Martinsville Cix cuit Court Clerk t s Office." <br /> <br />Tl1e s aid viewers, in pursuance of their dire ction anc~ appointment <br />by the C01illCil under date of February 14, 1 CJS6, stated in their written <br />r0)Ort that in their opinion the inconvenience a.."1d aOemc.onment of said <br />street to the 1)ublic generally would be over-shadowed by the convenience <br />of the public having a newl;y com tructed entrance into Hemorial <br />Boulevard fron the Dye Plant Road across the Southern portion of the <br />H.
