<br />~14 <br /> <br />----,._..__._'""_.,~~--'~ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JAlmARY 10, 1956 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsvi11e, Vi.:::'ginia, <br /> <br />with Mayor R. S. Hodnett presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, City Hall, on <br /> <br />Tuesday, January 10, 1956, at 7:30 P.M., with all members present, as follows: Mayor <br /> <br />and Councilman R. S. Hodnett; Vice-Mayor and Councilman C. P. Craig; and Councilmen <br /> <br />B. H. Hill, W. T. Turner, and J. R. Walker. <br /> <br />After the invocation by Rev. William Kinser, Pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, <br /> <br />Council approved as read the minutes of the Council meeting held December 27, 1955. <br /> <br />After -receiving a letter from School Superintendent 1.'1. L. Carper in which Council was <br /> <br />advised that the recent offer from La.nier Farm, Ine. to sell a tract of land in Forest <br /> <br />Park to the School Board for $17,090.00 has been amended only as to the rate of <br /> <br />interest on any unpaid balance if the School Board accepted the offer, which annual <br /> <br />interest rate would be three (3 %) per cent, COlh'1ci1 lh'1animously authorized the <br /> <br />transfer of $2,000.00 from the General Fund's "School Landll account to the School <br /> <br />Fund as a down-payment on said property. <br /> <br />By a recorded vote, which was unanimous, Council placed on first reading the following <br /> <br />bond ordinance which would authorize the issuance of $27S,000.00 of City of <br /> <br />Martinsville negotiable bonds for the purpose as stated in said bond ordinance: <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE ISSUANCE OF $275,000 OF BOIJIXi OF THE CITY OF <br />WJARTIN3VILLE TO FINANCE THE COST OF ER1~CTING feND EQUIPPING A BUIWING FOR <br />THE USE OF THE CITY'S FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTLIENTS, AND ACQUITtING THE lAND <br />SUITABLE FOR A SITE FOR SUCH BUILDING, AND PROVIDING FOR THE SUBMISSION <br />OF THE QUESTION OF ISSUING SAID BONDS TO THE QUALIFIE:;J VOTERS OF SAID CITY. <br /> <br />BE IT ORnA.INED by the Council of the City of I!iartinsvi11e, Virginia, <br />as fo1loV'lS: <br />
