<br />4C <br /> <br />DECEMBER 10, 1955 <br /> <br />SA TURDAY <br /> <br />WHEREAS, his Excellency, Governor Thomas B. Stanley, has set January 9, <br />1956 as the daGe for holding an election to decide whether or not there shall <br />be a C onve ntion; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, \'re, the Council of the City of Martinsville, believe that the <br />best interests of all of our people of both races vall best be served by the <br />enactment of legislation proposed by the Gray Commission. <br /> <br />NOW, THERE:r-'ORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we, the Council of the City of <br />Martimville, urge all our citizens who are interested in the preservation <br />and improvement of the public free school system of Virginia to vote "for" <br />the convention; and, <br /> <br />BE IT FURTliER F.ESOLVED that copies of this Resolution be sent to his <br />Excellency, Governor Stanley; to the School Board of the City of Martinsville, <br />and to the Delegates and Senators representing Martinsville in the General <br />Assembly of Virginia, and to the press and the radio. <br /> <br />The Council then reviewed the 1956 legislative program as prepared and recommended <br /> <br />by the Legislative Cormnittee of the League of Virginia Municipalities. <br /> <br />m" <br />~~ <br />i <br /> <br />Council was adjourned. <br /> <br />W.2~:r~~~~le;.k of Council <br />
