<br />386 <br /> <br />TUBS DAY <br /> <br />SEPTEMBER 6, 1955 <br /> <br />After receiving from City Manager Mathewson an explanation concerning certain local <br /> <br />sanitation conditions, Council unanimously adopted the following amendment to the <br /> <br />City's Building Code: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />meeting assembled this sixth day of September, 1955, that Section 106.1, <br />entitled "Section on Application", of the Building Code of the City of <br />Martinsville be aIOOnded by adding to said Section 106.1 the following <br />paragraph, which paragraph shall be designated as paragraph (c): <br /> <br />(c) The Building Official, before issuing a permit for any <br />construction, shall satisfy himself that the owner will provide <br />or have available, prior to occupancy or use of the house or <br />building for which a building permit is being sought, sufficient <br />sewer lines or septic tank with disposal field or pit privy all <br />acceptable to the City Health and Inspection Departments, and <br />water lines or private water supply of sufficient capacity and <br />purety to serve the premises as determined by the Health and <br />Inspection Departments of the City of Martinsville. <br /> <br />An emergency existing, this ordinance shall be in force from date of passage. <br /> <br />Pursuant to public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on a petition recently <br /> <br />submitted by Lanier Farm, Inc. and Honorable Kennon C. Whittle, and approved by the <br /> <br />City Planning Commission, requesting the rezoning to "B-1 Businessll of Lots 1 through <br /> <br />8 of Section "'J" in Forest Park. The petitioners were represented by Attorney <br /> <br />Robert H. May and the opponents to the proposed rezoning by Attorney Marvin L. Hill. <br /> <br />Council took no action other than to express its desire to give the matter more <br /> <br />consideration before rendering its decision. <br /> <br />Council was adjourned. <br /> <br />w. <br /> <br /> <br />, Clerk of ouncil <br />
