3~ TUESDAY AllGUST 23. 1955 .---- Through their counsel, Attorney Robert H. Nay, a number of residents of Old Danyille Road presented a petition requesting the rezoning from "B-1 Busi..."1CSS" to "A-2 Res7.dential" the following- properties on Old Danville Road: lots 19 - 40, Section 3, Sheet 45, and Lots 11 - 26, Sheet 46 on the Ea st side of the Old Danvl11e Road; and Lots 3 - 5, Section 3, Sheet 45 and Lots 1 - 16, Section 4, Sheet 45 on the 1,-lest side of the Old Danville 'load. Council referred this petition to the Plarming Commission for its consider- ation ~nd recoIDC1endation. In conclusion, Council received .from City Manager Ne.thewson a brief verbal report on the Managerts trip, along with members of the City Planning C01"':rrnission, to Philadelphia on August 18, 1955 where a con:'erence 'W':i.th ~::~ ~~ ~ representatives of the Federal Government t s Urban Rene./s-I !\gency was held to determine ways and means of effecting the City Managert s recornnended "Save our Downtown Project". While the Planning Commission has this matter tmder considerati:m and wDl later render a report thereon as well as on the conference, the City Hanager pdnted out thA.t under the broad provisions of the Federal law governj.ng actj,vi ties of the Urban Rene\.ral _l\.gency the Federal Government could participate financially quite heavily in tJd.s project. The }1anager further pointed out some of the economic and social benefits 1,lhich would result from this project from the 10c31 standpoint as well as the Federal standpoint.
