<br />~54 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JULY 20, 1954 <br /> <br />A special meeting of MartinsvilJE City Council, as called by action of said <br /> <br />Council in regular meeting held July D, 1951+, was held in the Conre il Charriber, <br /> <br /> <br />City Hall, on Tuesday, July 20, 1954, at 7:30 P"M., with Mayor R. S. Hodnett <br /> <br />presiding and with all member3, as follows, being present: Mayor and Councilman <br /> <br />R. S. Hodnett, and CounciL"Tlen C. P. Craig, D. H. Goode, W. T. Turner, and <br /> <br />J. R. WaL1,cer. <br /> <br />While the purpose of this meeting was to consider the terms and conditions of a <br /> <br />proposed franchise for local bus operations, Council, by unanimous consent of all <br /> <br />Councilrnen, first considered the Planning Connnission's recommendation of July 19, <br /> <br />195L~ wherein the PlanniTIG Conunission recoIlLsended, as follow's, that the rezoning <br /> <br />petition of Sale Knitting Company, Inc., dated June 21, 1954, be granted: <br /> <br />The Planning Commission of the City of Martinsville, at a special meeting <br />on July 19, 1951+, considered a request referred to tiwm by the City <br />Council from the Sale Knitting Company involving the rezoning of all <br />properties presently owned by them and not presently zoned as B-2 <br />Industrial zoning. <br /> <br />After due consideration of this matter, the Commission voted unanimously <br />to recommend to the City Council that this petition be granted as stated. <br /> <br />In considering this request the Planning Commission noted the following <br />fac ts : <br /> <br />1. The property and buildings presently occupied by the Sale Knitting <br />Company on the west side of Roy Street were in existance at the time <br />our zoning ordine.nce was written and 2'or that reason, ',vas spot zoned <br />as B-2 Industrial zoning. <br /> <br />2. Only that property which was occupied by the buildings themselves was <br />zoned as B-2 Industri2.1 at tJ1at time, and a definite need has been <br />established at the present for addi tional expamion of their facilities. <br /> <br />3. A public hearing ViaS held in reference to ti1:LS rezoning on Thursday, <br />July 1, 1951+, at which a number of residents in that area appeared. <br />No objection to this rezon.i.ng was noted at that t:L"Tle. <br /> <br />The Planning Commission respectfully submits the above recommendation for <br />C ounc iI's further com ideration. <br />
