<br />it <br /> <br />SEPTEMBER 22, 1953 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor R. S. Hodnett presiding was held in the Council Chamber, <br /> <br />, . <br /> <br />City Hall, on Tuesday, September 22, 1953, at 7:30 o'clock P.M., all members, <br /> <br />as follows, being present: Mayor and Councilman R. S. Hodnett, and Councilmen <br /> <br />C. P. Craig, D. H. Goode, W. T. Turner, and J. R. Walker. <br /> <br />Minutes of the regular Council meeting held September 8, 1953, upon being read, <br /> <br />-- <br /> <br />were approved. <br /> <br />After acknowledging the presence of visitors who were present either to observe <br /> <br />the meeting or in connection with some item on the agenda, Council received from <br /> <br />a resident of Endless Street a request that he be allowed to install a water lire <br /> <br />~'" <br />i~ <br />i <br /> <br />on said Endless Street which would not comply with the City's minimum requirements, <br /> <br />pointing out that no additional demands could ever be made upon such a line and, <br /> <br />therefore, the line as proposed could serve his purpose and still not meet the <br /> <br />standards. This request was referred to Cit,y Manager Mathewson. <br /> <br />Upon presentation by Attorney John J. Hartley, on behalf of local taxi-cab <br /> <br />owners-operators, certain information requested by the Council relative to the <br /> <br />effect a proposed taxi-cab rate increase would have locally, and upon motion, <br /> <br />duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council adopted the following amendment <br /> <br />to its Taxi-Cab Ordinance as last amended January 22, 1952: <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND RE-ORDAINING PARAGRAPH (N) OF SUBSECTION 12 <br />OF SECTION 62 OF TITLE VI - TRAFFIC AND SAFETY OF THE CODE OF 1943 AS <br />HERETOFORE A1ffiNDED. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville that Paragraph (N) <br />of subsection 12 of Section 62 of Title VI - "Traffic and Safety" of the Code <br />of 1943, as heretofore amended - be amended and re-ordained as follows: <br /> <br />SUBSECTION 12: TA..XIMETERS: REGUlATIONS AND RATES: EFFECTIVE DATES. <br /> <br />eN) On and after the 1st day of October, 1953, it shall be unlawful to operate <br />or cause to be operated under any certificate of public convenience and necessity <br />issued under this Title any taxicab or for-hire car, hereinafter referred to as <br />
