M Martinsville

City Council
Agenda Summary

Meeting Date:
Item No:
Department:
Issue:

February 13,2007
2.

Public Works

Conduct a public hearing and consider approval of the sale of
City-owned real property consisting of approximately 2,000
square feet fronting 511 South Memorial Boulevard to James P.
Price, Jr. and authorizing the City Manager to execute a deed
conveying said property as noted.

Summary:

As discussed at your last meeting, the City has been approached by James P. Price
expressing a desire to purchase unused residue/surplus property located in front
of 511 S. Memorial Blvd., approximately 2,000 square feet, assessed value of
$1,000. Mr. Price owns several parcels at this location and is attempting to
combine all of the parcels into one large tract for possible sale.

Staff research indicates the property was acquired by the City from the Virginia
Department of Transportation a number of years ago as a result of the widening of
Memorial Boulevard.

The property in question is not needed by the City for street widening/ construction
purposes and Mr. Price has agreed to purchase the property at the assessed value
(determined by the Commissioner of the Revenue's Office).

Attachments: Map of 511 S. Memorial Blvd

Recommendations: Conduct public hearing and motion to authorize the City
Manager to execute the deed.
