<br />J8 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />SEPTEMBER 23, 1952 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, municipal institutions and local goverrunent constitute not <br />only the very fountain head of our American democratic form of <br />govermnent but serve as the last bulwark of a free nation, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Home Rule and local self-government, representing the <br />purest sys tem of democracy yet devised, is now being endangered by <br />creeping Socialism disguised as the highly centralized Welfare State <br />with resulting waste of manpowers and public funds, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, one of the most important ways to stop this disguised attack <br />on the American system of Free Enterprise and freedom from control of <br />inefficient bureaucre.tic government is by an attempt to de-centralize <br />this growing authority thro~gh an appeal to the citizens themselves, <br /> <br />NON, THEREFORE, BE IT FiESOLVED, that the League of V irginia Municipalities <br />go on record as advocatinE that all our citizens register and vote in <br />their respective localities, and furt.'1er that our citizens be urged to <br />place the welfare of their Conununi-v.r, state and nation above the plane <br />of partisan politics and selfish pressure groups. <br /> <br />There beirg no other business to come before Council, Council was adjourned. <br /> <br />
