<br />36 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />SEPl'EMBER 23, 1952 <br /> <br />Resuming its regular order of business, there being no other visitors to be <br /> <br />heard, Council heard a report from City Manager Mathewson concerning the <br /> <br />proposed enlargement of the Maple street Electric Sub-station in which it was <br /> <br />brought out mat irmnediate steps should be taken to enlarge this Sub-station <br /> <br />because of the over-load now being placed on said station. City Manager <br /> <br />Mathewson informed Council that the necessary expenditures for this project <br /> <br />would amount to $17,000.00 of whic h $9,477.00 worth of equipme nt could be <br /> <br />acquired from the Appalachian Electric Power Company on a "rental-purchasell <br /> <br />basis, that is, on a rental basis of 1% per an~ which rental would be applied <br /> <br />towards the purchase price should the City decide to acquire the equipment out- <br /> <br />riht. Council, thereupon, authorized City Manager Mathe"wson to execute a contract <br /> <br />with the Appalachian Company on such Ilrental-purchasell basis. <br /> <br />In connection with a petition from Mr. R. D. Edwards that lots 35, 37, and 39 on <br /> <br />the Dye Plant Road be re-zoned from 1113-1 Businessll to f1A-2 Residentialll, which <br /> <br />petition was referred to the Planning Commission by Coun::il on August 12, 1952, <br /> <br />the Planning COITL"'llission reported that it reconnnended that the petition be granted; <br /> <br />whereupon, Council called for a Pub1ic Hearing on this proposed re-zoning to be <br /> <br />held at the next regular Council meeting October 14, 1952. <br /> <br />The f ollowil1t'3 amendment to the City I s Building Code ("Building Code, Martinsville, <br /> <br />195111) was unanimously adopted with an emergency provision attached: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular meeting assemble d this twenty-thir d day of September, 1952, <br />that Section 2604 (2604.1 - Sections Omitted) of the Building Code of <br />the City of Martinsvi1le, adopted FebrUc'lrY 13, 1951 and entitled IIBuilding <br />Code, Martinsville, 1951", be amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />SECTION 2604 - OMISSIONS <br /> <br />2604.1 - Sections Omitted <br />
