<br />i8 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />AUGlBT 12, 1952 <br /> <br />property abutting on the said proposed closed portion of said Street, that the <br />same passes through and across rough terrain and that it would be exceedingly <br />expensive and unprofitable to ever open up and develop the same, but if the <br />lots as shown on the Peirce Maps are permitted to be developed valuable lots <br />will thus be created, facing on U. S. Highway #220, and investments of great <br />worth will be placed on said lots thus creating taxable values which do not <br />now exist; and that the closing of said Street would be of disadvantage to <br />no one but would be of great advantage to your petitiober ani to the City of <br />Martinsville, and your petitioner will further agree that if the City ever <br />hard-surfaces the right-of-way, constituting Highway #220, it shall have the <br />right to fill in the adjoining property so as to give support for hard surface <br />of the right-of-way upon the condition that the 6ity shall make no fills on <br />any property on which the owner has erected buildings and driveways on a level <br />with the present grade of Highway #220. <br /> <br />Respectfully submitted, <br /> <br />WESMART CORPORATION, <br />BY: L. Hodges, President (Signed) <br /> <br />After discussing same, upon motion which was seconded and unanimously carried (CounCilman <br /> <br />Hodnett abstaining because of personal interestlr in the matter), the vote being <br /> <br />recorded, Council went on record as requesting Mr. Jesse D. Clift, Clerk of the <br /> <br />Martinsville City Circuit Court, to obtain a copy of the map relating thereto from the <br /> <br />Henry County Circuit Court Clerk1s office (where said map is of record) and duly <br /> <br />record same in his office and, furthermore, mark that portion of Matt Street requested <br /> <br />abandoned "vacated". <br /> <br />Resuming its regular order of busimss, Coureil heard a report from City Manager <br /> <br />Mathewson wherein the City l\lanager inforrred the Council that the Park-Ad Company, <br /> <br />which recently submitted a proposal as mentioned in the Council's minutes of July 22, <br /> <br />1952, has advised that it is not interested in entering into an agreerrent with the City <br /> <br />for permission to place advertiserrents on off-street parking meters only; whereupon <br /> <br />Council "tabled" said matter. <br /> <br />The following resolution authorizing temporary borrowing of funds against the City's <br /> <br />gneral certificates of deposits, upon motion, was unanimously adopted: <br />
