<br />3!: <br /> <br />MONDAY <br /> <br />SEPTEMBER 1. 1958 <br /> <br />Pursuant to Sections 5(A) and 7 of the Charter of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> <br />the required organizational meeting of Martinsville City Council was conducted in the <br /> <br />Council Chamber, City Hall, September 1, 1958, at 9:00 A.M., with all member present, <br /> <br />as follows: Councilmen R. S. Brown, Jr., T. J. Burch, C. C. Donavant, John W. Shultz, <br /> <br />and E. E. Stone. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Mr. Jesse D. Clift, Clerk of the City Circuit Court, presided <br /> <br />and administered the Oath of Office to incoming Councilmen R. S. Brown, Jr., and <br /> <br />T. J. Burch. On motion of Councilman Brown and with the unanimous vote of the members <br /> <br />present, Councilman John W. Shultz was elected Mayor of the City of ~artinsville to serve <br /> <br />through August 31, 1960. Mayor Shultz then assumed the position of presiding officer <br /> <br />for the conduct of the remainder of the meeting. <br /> <br />I""""" <br />i~~! <br />;,2:::::;:: <br />';"i <br /> <br />On motion duly adopted, City Manager Julian Hirst was appointed Acting Clerk for the <br /> <br />purpose of recording the action of this meeting. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Burch, seconded by Councilman Brown, Councilman E. E. Stone, with <br /> <br />the unanimous vote of the members present, was elected Vice-Mayor for the term expiring <br /> <br />August 31, 1960. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Burch, seconded by Councilman stone, Mr. C. E. Taylor, Jr., was <br /> <br />reapp0inted Attorney for the City for the current term of the Council. <br /> <br />On motion of councidown, seconded by Councilman Burch, Mr. W. H. Yeaman was unanimously <br /> <br />elected Clerk of the Council for the current term of the Council. <br />
