Smith, Urban Engineer for the <br /> <br />state Highway Department, stating that through the City's annexation in <br /> <br />1947 the City became the controlling agency over the former 1l01d Wytheville <br /> <br />Turnpikell right-of-way within the corporate limits, and Council determining <br /> <br />that it would be unwise to abandon any of the right-of-way controlled by <br /> <br />the City along Memorial Boulevard South, Council denied the requests <br /> <br />received June 25, 1957 :from Mrs. Vivian Gilley and Mr. and Mrs. John C. <br /> <br />\oliggington. <br /> <br />Pursuant to regulations of the State Department of Welfare, Martinsville1s <br /> <br />Department of Public Welfare prepared and presented its estimated budget <br /> <br />requirements for the fiscal years ending June 30, 1959 and 1960. In this report special recognition was <br /> <br />given the City of Martinsville for its public safety education program <br /> <br />sponsored by the City1s Police Department. <br />
