<br />In acknowledging receipt of the completed report or the Mayor's Commission
<br />on Human Values, dated January 3, 1957, and to commend the Commission as
<br />a unit for its excellent work during the course of its assignment, Council
<br />
<br />adopted the following resolution, suggesting, meanwhile, that a meeting
<br />of the Council with the ten committee chairmen, the general cha11'11811,
<br />
<br />and the program director, be held in the Council Chamber, Monday, January
<br />
<br />21, 1957, at 7:30 P.M.:
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, b)" Counci11s authoriaation in connection with the
<br />adoption of' the 1955-56 budget for the City ot Martinsvi11e
<br />a commission composed of local interested citizens and
<br />designated as the "Mayor's Commission on Human Values" was
<br />created to conduct a study of various local communit)"
<br />conditions and to report its findings with recommendations
<br />thereon; and
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, in a public meeting held January 3, 1957 the Commission
<br />officially completed its assignment by presenting its report
<br />to Martinsvi11e City Council and to the citizens of Martinsville;
<br />now, therefore,
<br />
<br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsvi1le,
<br />Virginia, in regular meeting assembled this eighth day of
<br />January, 1957, that receipt of the COJIDIlission's report be and
<br />is hereby acknowledged; and, turtherem.ore,
<br />
<br />BE IT RESOL VEl> that, in addition to the recognition and
<br />appreciation expressed by Council to the individual members
<br />and staff by resolution adopted December 11, 1956, this Council
<br />herein offers this resolution as a token of its appreciation
<br />and gratitude to the Coll'lllission as a whole; and
<br />
<br />BE IT :roRTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be
<br />forwarded to the Commission's General Chairman, 11;s Program
<br />Director, and to offices of the local press and radio stations.
<br />
<br />Cit)" Manager Hirst advised Council that effective January 11, 1957, the
<br />
<br />Water-Street Division would become the Water-Street Department with Mr.
<br />George W. Brow as Director (department head) and the Electric Division
<br />would become the Electric Department with Mr. Thomas W. Wright as
<br />Director (department head), thus effecting an organizational realignment.
<br />The City Manager also advised Council that the resignation of Mr. Walker
<br />
<br />H. Graves as an employee of the City, as reported December 18, 1956,
<br />
