/,,-..

r~"g
~g
>-'">

,=
\=

--

4

TUESDAY

JrNE 26. 1956

The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsvil1e,

Virginia, with Mayor R. S. Hodnett presiding, was held in the Council Chamber,

City Hall, on Tuesday, June 26, 1956, at 7:30 P.M., with all members present,

as follows: Mayor and Councilman R. S. Hodnett; Vice-Mayor and Councilman

C. P. Craig; and Councilmen B. H. Hill, W. T. Turner, and J. R. Walker.

After the invocation, offered by Councilman Hill, Council approved as read

the minutes of its regular meeting held June 12, 1956.

As its first item of business Council received and accepted the following

report of a Board of Viewers, instructing City Attorney stone to take such

steps as necessary to effect the closing and abandonment of the portion of

Smith-Rucker Road in question:

We the undersigned have viewed the unopened portion of Smith-Rucker
Road between existing Smith-Rucker Road and Beaver Street. We met
with Mr. Irving McGhee, Mr. Sam Baldwin and Mr. John A. Matthews on
the property. Mr. Baldwin and Mr. Matthews own all the property
adjacent to or fronting on the portion of Smith-Rucker Road that it
is proposed to be abandoned.

We understand that Mr. Baldwin in consideration of this abandonment
has agreed to dedicate a 10 foot strip of land along the existing
Smith-Rucker Road for the purpose of widening this road. We also
understand that the corner at the intersection of Beaver Street
and Smith-Rucker Road is to be cut back, which is agreeable with
Mr. Baldwj.n.

It is our opinion that no inconvenience to the adjacent property
owner or to the public will result from closing said street and
that the abandonment of this right-of-way will be in line with
good planning.

Yours very truly,

Irving W. Ramsey
Arthur C. Richardson
Brooks R. Leavitt
