<br />3~ <br /> <br />T1!F{SDAY <br /> <br />JUNE 27. 1 961 <br /> <br />At the request of representatives of the ministerial group, Council scheduled <br /> <br /> <br />another conference with these representatives for Friday, June 30, 1961, at <br /> <br /> <br />4:00 P.M., in the Council Chamber. <br /> <br />Council continued for further consideration a petition from the City School <br /> <br /> <br />Board requesting that the City provide (at City expense) street improvements <br /> <br /> <br />and property drainage facilities at the new West End Elementary School. <br /> <br />Council congratulated the CitJr's Police Department and other personnel <br /> <br /> <br />responsible for an improved pedestrian safety program for which the Virginia <br /> <br /> <br />Automobile Association granted a special achievement award to the Police <br /> <br /> <br />Department for the calendar year 1960. <br /> <br />In connection with a suggestion that the City's Health Department be relocated <br /> <br />in the North Martinsville Elementary School building, Mayor Wilson appointed <br /> <br />Vice-Mayor Henick and Councilman Stone as a special committee to confer with <br /> <br />Health Deoartment and School Board officials in an investigation of this <br /> <br />suggested possibility. <br /> <br />.- <br /> <br />No action was required of Council upon receipt of a letter from the Appalachian <br /> <br /> <br />P01.J'er Company acknowledging Counci 1 's letter of June 21, 1961, pertaining to <br /> <br /> <br />the acqui si tion by the City of Appalachian's el ectric facilities \.J'ithin the <br /> <br /> <br />area annexed to the Ci ty as of January 1, 1960. <br /> <br />-- <br /> <br />Council continued for further study a complaint registered by l~s. W. R. Russell, <br /> <br />of 705 Finley street, pointing out unsanitary conditions existing at her <br />
