<br />1. <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MAY 24, 1960 <br /> <br />expressing the view that there are too many stations in this area at present. <br /> <br />Your Commission, after much study of the petition and its effect on overall <br />planning for the community, voted unanimous ly to make the following recommendation <br />to C ouro il: <br /> <br />That the petition for rezoning to B-1 Business be denied. <br /> <br /> The <br /> 1. <br />,.....-.' 2. <br /> 3. <br /> <br />following were the findi~ of the Commission in considering this petition: <br /> <br />That there is already an amount of land considerably in excess of that <br />needed which is zoned for commercial use. <br /> <br />That the use of this property for intensive busimss would seriously <br />aggravate an already congested cormr. <br /> <br />That the granting of this petition would lead ultimately to the striR <br />zoning of Church street for busimss, thus further aggravating a serious <br />traffic problem. <br /> <br />4. That from the standpoint of good and proper planning, the Commission must <br />endorse the action of previous Commissions in terminating the Commercial <br />business zoning along East Church Street at Cleveland Avenue. <br /> <br />The Planning Commission respectfully submits the above recommendation for Coumills <br />further consideration. <br /> <br />Council also took under advisement a request from Moorefieldls Cleaners and Laundry, <br /> <br />Inc., and a request from Dr. E. M. McDaniel that Council give some relief through a <br /> <br />reduc tion of its current sewer service charges imposed on large industrial users, as <br /> <br />in the case of Moorefieldls, and on owners of private swimmine pools, as in the case of <br /> <br />Dr. McDaniel. <br /> <br />In considering of the filling of vacancies on the Citizens I Parking Committee, Couroil <br /> <br />requested the Retail Merchants I Association to recommend one nominee, with Couroil to <br /> <br /> <br />make such other appointJOOnts (in addition to the Merchants I Association nominee) as it <br /> <br />seems necessary. <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst reported that necessary agreements have been prepared and received <br /> <br />in connection with the closing of a portion of Sellers Street between West Church Street <br />
