<br />16 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JULY 28. 1959 <br /> <br />Council referred this request to the Pla."1ning Commission for its consideration <br />and recommendation. <br /> <br />By invitation extended July 14, 1959, the Planning Commission (Mr. Leon <br /> <br />Globman, Chairman) appeared before Council and presented a proposed and revised <br /> <br />Thoroughfare Plan for the City of Martinsville. After reviewing for Council <br /> <br /> <br />the background (land usage ; population; economic base; and zoning) on which <br /> <br />the Commission has based its study and developed its findings, the Commission <br /> <br />recommended that Council, after due consideration of the Plan, adopt said PI&"1 <br /> <br />and proceed with a schedule contemplating the completion of the projects <br /> <br />encompassed in said Plan by 1975. <br /> <br />1.11 response to an invitation from and a request by the Martinsville Area Chamber <br />of Commerce (presented by Mr. Leon Globman, Membership Campaign Chairman) that <br />the City of Martinsville become a member of the Chamber of Commerce, recently <br />organized, Council unanimously voted for acceptance of said invitation and <br />authorized the payment of $1,000.00 to the Chamber of Commerce for the City's <br />membership for one year (this amount already having been appropriated in the <br />1959-60 budget under caption "Community Pramotion"--General Fund account <br />15-A 502-E) . <br /> <br />Upon request and recommendation of City l-Kanager Hirst, Council unanimously <br /> <br />and by a recorded vote appropriated the sum of $100.00 to the "Community <br /> <br />Promotion" account (for incidental expenses) from the General Fund IS <br /> <br />Emergency Account. <br />
