48. Provided $47,775 for the electric utility expansion program. This is

Step No. 4 in the five-to- seven year development program outlined to

City Council in November, 1956. This program had been intended at

$85,000 per year, however, to meet the outlined budget, reductions have

been neces sitated. Further, costs of annexation relating to the electric

utility have been deducted from this account becaus e of the overall budget

balancing problem and with an interpretation of the annexation costs being

related to the electric utility expansion intent. Further, reduction in this

account would be of questionable wisdom. The 1959-60 phase would

initiate funds toward a unit substation and necessary serving transmission

lines for the north or east side of the city which would be in order in

1960-61.

49. Provides $993.48 as one-year payment on the automatic voting machines.

50. Provides $1,000 in a new item designated as Community Advertising and

Promotion. This has been included should the City Council wish to consider

financial participation by the city government in the Chamber of Commerce

ente rpris e.

51. Provides $5,000 for city participation, under policy, in subdivision

development projects. This is a decrease from the $10,000 assigned in

previous budgets.

52. Provides $10,000 for Route 220 (Memorial Boulevard) construction and

$20,000 for Route 58- 57 construction. The status of funds for these two

- 29 -
