<br />January 9,2007 <br /> <br />expenditure items for discussion at the January 23, 2007 meeting. He was <br /> <br />also directed to bring back a balanced budget for their consideration at a later <br /> <br />time. <br /> <br />Council next heard the monthly update from the Martinsville-Henry <br /> <br />County Economic Development Corporation. Mark Heath called on Lisa Fultz <br /> <br />to make remarks concerning the small and minority businesses. She <br /> <br />mentioned upcoming round table discussions on March 16, June 15 and <br /> <br />September 14 at the EDC office and invited any member of Council to attend. <br /> <br />Mark Heath stated that initial contact has been made with the top 20 <br /> <br />potential retailers that fit our geographic market and that visits on their sites <br /> <br />are being scheduled for May. The preliminary work has also been done on the <br /> <br /> <br />hotel part of the study. The bid has been awarded for the shell building at the <br /> <br /> <br />Patriot Centre and work should begin this month and they are already <br /> <br /> <br />marketing the building. Concerning a future joint industrial park, the EDC <br /> <br />has looked at six different areas and will be bringing a recommendation back at <br /> <br />a later date. The tourism website has been launched and they are trying to tap <br /> <br />into the market of identifying possible film locations in the Martinsville-Henry <br /> <br />County area. There are 18 current prospects. <br /> <br />Brenda Prillaman, Customer Service Coordinator, presented the <br /> <br />quarterly neighborhood focus report on the Druid Hills/Uptown area and <br /> <br />everyone was reminded of the Community Meeting for the area tonight at 7:00 <br /> <br />p.m at the Library. <br />
