M Martinsville

City Council
Agenda Summary

Meeting Date:
Item No:
Department:
Issue:

January 23, 2007
14.

Public Works

Consider adoption of a Resolution requesting the Virginia
Department of Transportation to add eligible lane mileage for
calculating street maintenance payments to the City as a result
of changes to Liberty Street Intersection Improvement Project.

Summary: As a result of the completion of the Liberty Street intersection
improvement project in 2006 involving travel lane additions and widenings, certain
changes occurred in the lane mileage of Liberty Street, Clearview Drive, Northside
Drive, Fairy Street, Dudley Street, and York Street for which the City is eligible to
receive street maintenance payments from the state. All of the streets included in
the widening and improvement project with the exception of Stultz Road realized
an increase in eligible lane mileage with the result being an overall increase of 1.97
lane miles to the City's inventory, as outlined on attached VDOT Form U-1. In
accordance with VDOT requirements regarding changes to street mileage, it is
necessary that Form U-1 along with appropriate supporting documentation and a
Council Resolution be sent to the Resident Engineer's office prior to February 1 in
order to be considered for approval for funding in the upcoming fiscal year. The
net effect of these changes if approved by VDOT will be an estimated increase in
street maintenance payments of $30, 182, based on current reimbursement rates.

Attachments:

Resolution
VDOT Form U-1

Recommendations:

Motion to adopt Resolution
