<br />146 <br /> <br />THURSDAY <br /> <br />SEPTEMBER 2. 1965 <br /> <br />Among interested persons present at this meeting and speaking to the Council <br /> <br />were: <br /> <br />1. Stephen D. Martin, Jr., Attorney at Law, on behalf of Booth <br /> <br />Broadcasting Corporation, which firm has expressed itself <br /> <br />heretofore as being interested in obtaining a CATV franchise in <br /> <br />Martinsville; with Mr. Martin informing Council that no reply of <br /> <br />position or statement has been received from his client with <br /> <br />reference to current CATV franchise proposals presented to <br /> <br />Council and with reference to the policy matters being subject of <br /> <br />this meeting; <br /> <br />2. Mr. C. Harry Anglin, on behalf of his interest in obtaining a <br /> <br />local CATV franchise; <br /> <br />3. Mr. Curtis Jones and Mr. William Lawless, on behalf of themselves <br /> <br />and the Virginia Electronic Association, reiterating their position <br /> <br />and recommendations previously presented, as well as explaining the <br /> <br />methods by which--without cost to the public and without the <br /> <br />installation of a CATV system--better television reception, if <br /> <br />determined as being needed (for which studies are underway), will <br /> <br />be made available to the Martinsville area; and <br /> <br />4. Mr. Lee Gilbert, Manager of Radio Station WMVA, with the station's <br /> <br />counsel, Mr. Jackson L. Kiser, Attorney at Law, both primarily as <br /> <br />observers at this meeting. <br /> <br />At the conclusion of the "public hearing" phase of the meeting, Council reviewed <br /> <br />the policy questions posed in City Manager Hirst's memorandum of August 23, 1965, <br /> <br />and directed City Attorney Cubine to reflect Council's decisions and conclusions <br /> <br />thereon--as expressed during the second phase of the meeting--in the draft of <br /> <br />the proposed CATV franchise. <br /> <br />Council was adjourned. <br /> <br />l <br /> <br />W.
