28

TUESDAY

OCTOBER 27, 1964

In connection with the annexation of the Lanier Farm and Whittle Trust

properties directed by the special Annexation Court under the terms

reported in Council's minutes of October 1st, Council learned that the

amount of Henry County1s bonded indebtedness tentatively directed by the

Court to be assumed by the City of Martinsville has been more recently

revised by the Court to exclude a proposed $1,000,000 Henry County school

borrowing, thus reducing the amount to be assumed by the City by

approximately $4,626.00. Council learned, too, that the portion of the

Old Danville Road on which Lanier Farm's property fronts was included in

Lanier Farm's petition for annexation and was included in the Court's

decision is to become a part of the City's street system.

Toward widening and improving Mulberry Extension, between Starling and

Cleveland Streets, eventually for the extension of this street in keeping

with plans for the proposed "Inner Loop~ street system, Council unanimously

authorized the purchase from Mr. R. A. Henderson, Jr., of his house and lot

at 316 Mulberry Extension for the sum of $11,784.89 funds for which Council

has not appropriated but are to be included in cost of the project for which

funds are to be provided. City Manager Hirst reported that negotiations

are under way for the acquisition of other properties within this block

where such properties will be required.

Council was informed that no response has been received either from

Moorefield's Cleaners & Laundry or from County-City Laundry in reply to

Council's warning issued October 13th with regard to continued air

pollution by these firms.
