3(

TUESDAY

AUGUST 25, 1964

..-

water and :3ewer lines along Fifth Street, Council accepting the lower of the

two bids submitted for each project:

Park Court (872 feet)

Prillaman & Pace . . . . . .
Hackler-Seymour Metal Works

$3,781.00
4,229.00

Fifth Street (800 feet)

Hackler-Seymour Metal Works
Prillaman & Pace . . . . . .

$7,441.50
7,726.00

~

Council unanimously accepted an easement--and authorized execution thereof

by Mayor Wilson and Council's Clerk--subject to approval of said easement

by City Attorney Cubine, from the Norfolk & Western Railway Company whereby

the City may improve and maintain a roadway along the railway company's

right-of-way from Broad Street to South Moss Street. City Manager Hirst

informed Council that this roadway has a maximum width of eighteen feet

(near the Broad Street terminus) and only fifteen feet width along the

Bridge Street overpass on into Moss Street; nevertheless, in view of the

traffic using this roadway, Mr. Hirst and Council were of the opinion that

it should be improved and maintained. It was Council's understanding that

this easement agreement could be terminated by the City at any time.

~

A delegation of residents of stultz Road--whose spokesman was Mr. Raymond

Nester--appeared before Council and appealed for Council's assistance towards

improving and widening Stultz Road to provide safer conditions for school

children in the area. This delegation also pointed out that Rapid Transit

Bus Company does not provide bus service for school children on a portion

of this street because the busses do not have turn-around space. Council

indicated that efforts would be made to provide turn-around space for the

busses and that the City would work with the residents of the street in an

effort to improve traffic conditions along this street.

Council was adjourned.

) 1M''>;\;:;:_ ,
W.
