Frith on behalf of the heirs of the Sallie Earley Estate, reported <br /> <br /> <br />in writing that the Board has viewed the alley--Ieading from the intersection <br /> <br /> <br />of Church Street and Booker Road--and determined that no inconvenience would <br /> <br />result from the closing and vacating of said alley and, therefore, recommended <br /> <br />that same be closed and vacated. Council unanimously accepted the Viewers' <br /> <br /> <br />report and instructed its Clerk to notify in writing the Clerk of Martinsville <br /> <br />Circuit Court of Council's action, with the request that his records be <br /> <br /> <br />accordingly marked and noted. <br /> <br />Under Section 15-766 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA, 1950, and as amended, Attorney M. <br /> <br />Harrison Joyce presented a petition on behalf of Sale Knitting Company requesting <br /> <br />the closing and vacating of a portion of Roy Street, as shown on map of property <br /> <br />prepared for Sale Knitting Company by J. A. Gustin & Associates on October 25, 1963 <br /> <br />and revised January 27, 1964. Attorney Joyce notified Council that required notices <br /> <br />of intent have been posted and, further, requested Council to appoint a Board of <br /> <br />Viewers to view this street and to "report in writing whether in their opinion, <br /> <br />any and if any, what, inconvenience would result from discontinuing" this portion <br /> <br /> <br />of Roy Street. By authority granted by Council, Mayor Wilson appointed the following <br /> <br /> <br />citizens to serve as a Board of Viewers in this matter: Messrs. Whitney Shumate, <br /> <br /> <br />R. A. Henderson, Jr., J. E. Jones, E. H. Draper, and O. B. Hensley. <br /> <br />Immediate Past President J. Garland Lovell and other members of the Martinsville <br /> <br />Volunteer Fire Company presented to Council the 1963 annual report of the Volunteer <br /> <br />Fire Company and received Council's assurance of continued appreciation of the fine <br /> <br />work of the Co~pany on behalf of the City and its citizens. <br /> <br />Dr. Charles J. Mathes, Director of the Martinsville-Henry County Health Department, <br /> <br />presented to Council a statistical report covering the Health Department's activities <br />
