<br />102 <br /> <br />FRIDAY <br /> <br />DECEMBER 21, 1962 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> <br />with Mayor J. Frank Wilson presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, City Hall, <br /> <br />Friday, December 21, 1962, at }t:30 P.M., in lieu of and replacing the meeting regularly- <br /> <br />scheduled for December 25, 1962 (ChristYlRS Day). All members of Council were present, <br /> <br />viz., Mayor J. Brank ~ilson; Vice-Mayor Fred T. Renick; Harry L. Boaz; Thomas J. Burch; <br /> <br />and E. ~. stone. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Coune il apDroved as recorded the minutes of its regular meeting <br /> <br />he Id December 11, 1962. <br /> <br />l.~r. J. L. Adams, manager of the local H. L. Green Company store at the corner of Main <br /> <br />and Franklin Streets, apDearCc. before Council and urged that the lenses on the <br /> <br />pedestrian sip;nal lights at the corner of Main and:ralnut Streets and the corner of <br /> <br />Franklin and i'iain Streets be cleaned regularly. This matter was referred to City <br /> <br />LTanager Hirst. <br /> <br />Through C:Lty Manager Hirst and Public ','Jorks Director George W. Brown, Council was <br /> <br />apprised of Sale Knittinf Conpany's clrivevmy-entrance construction plans at its now <br /> <br />plant on the east side of [i'ranklin Str3ct and, also, of Sale Knitting Company's request <br /> <br />that l.;J~anklin Street be widened at tb.at location. In connection with this request, <br /> <br />~ <br />City I:Ianager Hirst and Public ~'Jorks Director Brovm ::-ccommended that the portion of <br /> <br />Fran\.lin Street in front of this new plant be realigned and widened to a width of <br /> <br />forty feet, informing Council that in "uch a realignment additional right-of-way on the <br /> <br />west side of Franklin Street--mas tly owned by Lester Lumber Company and offered without <br /> <br />cost to the City by Lester Lumber Company as to this .firm's propertY-i"fOuld be required. <br /> <br />K,timated cost of the project, for the distance of som2 b.lO feet, vms given as ;';2,500.00; <br /> <br />whe"Gupon motion Council accented the recon:nendations and a:)')roved the project for <br /> <br />cons truction. <br /> <br />CO"lJncil was adjo1Jrned. <br /> <br />~" <br /> <br />dJ~.-'---'~ <br />
