<br />,. <br />. <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />OCTOBER 9. 1962 <br /> <br />/' <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor J. Frank Wilson presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, <br /> <br />City Hall, Tuesday, October 9, 1962, at 7:30 P.M., all members of Council being <br /> <br />present, viz., Mayor J. Frank Wilson; Vice-Mayor Fred T. Renick; H. L. Boaz; <br /> <br />Thomas J. Burch; and E. E. Stone. <br /> <br />--- <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held September 27, 1962. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged receipt of a notice from the State Compensation Board that <br /> <br />said Board will meet in Richmond, Virginia, October 15, 1962, for the purpose <br /> <br />of fixing salaries and expenses of the various constitutional officers of the <br /> <br />City of Martinsville for the calendar year 1963. In connection therewith, <br /> <br />Council received from these local officers their 1963 requests but took no <br /> <br />action thereon, pending study. <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst reported that construction of a sewer line--as a phase of <br /> <br />the current sewerage system improvements program--is sched~led for the Prunty <br /> <br />--- <br /> <br />Hill section (between the C&NW right-of-way and Northside Drive) within the <br /> <br />immediate future by the City's Public Works Department at a cost of approximately <br /> <br />$ 5 , 500 . <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst also reported that the City expects to invite bids within <br /> <br />the near future for the construction of a sewage disposal plant and, also, that <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />the application for a Federal grant of $154,000.00--authorized by Council <br /> <br />August 14, 1962--was filed this date (October 9th). <br /> <br />The status of the Armory project was briefly discussed, after which Council <br /> <br />adjourned. <br /> <br />~~~~~~~ <br />W.
