<br />~tl <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />APRIL 22, 1969 <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of City Manager Noland and Public Works Director George <br /> <br />W. Brown, Council authorized the purchase of Lot No. 13, fronting fifty feet <br /> <br />on the west side of Brookdale Road, from Mr. I. M. Groves, Sr., for the sum of <br /> <br />$3,000.00, a portion of which lot will be required for right-of-way in <br /> <br />connection with the proposed widening and improving of said Brookdale Road. <br /> <br />Council referred to the Planning Commission--for its consideration and <br /> <br /> <br />recommendation--a petition submitted by Nationwide Homes, Inc. (Mr. Ralph C. <br /> <br /> <br />Lester, President), requesting the rezoning to llIndustrial" classification of <br /> <br /> <br />that portion of the tract, not already so zoned, recently acquired by <br /> <br />petitioner from Mrs. Ruth Childress, said tract being located off Rives Road <br /> <br /> <br />Extended and bounded by Childress Drive and Forest Street Extended. <br /> <br />Council also referred to the Planning Commission--for its consideration and <br /> <br />recommendation--a petition submitted by residents of Rives Road Extended and <br /> <br />Lawson Street, requesting an "M-3 Industrial" zoning classification of <br /> <br />petitioners' properties in that area. <br /> <br />City Manager Noland presented a llstatus" report on the recently-authorized <br /> <br /> <br />food stamp program, indicating that fifty-six households are now participating <br /> <br /> <br />in the program. Nineteen of such households are also recipients of public <br /> <br /> <br />assistance, whereas the remaining thirty-seven are not now receiving such <br /> <br />assistance. Value of the stamps purchased by the participants was listed <br /> <br />at $4,779.00, for which the participants invested $1,652.00. <br /> <br />Upon recomrrlendation of City ~anager Noland and Public Works Director George <br /> <br />W. Brown, Council directed that the City's Utility Billing Division discontinue <br />
