There being no objections registered to this proposed <br /> <br />rezoning, Council adopted the following ordinance amending the City's <br /> <br />Zoning Code and Zoning Map, effecting the rezoning as proposed and <br /> <br />recommended: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, in regular meeting assembled this eighth day of April, <br />1969, that the City's Zoning Code and Zoning Map be, and are <br />hereby, amended to reclassify--for zoning pUrposes--as follows, <br />the following properties owned by Messrs. William Dudley Smith <br />and John Wesley Smith, Jr.: <br />(1) a new lot formed by the resubdividing of the Smith <br />property, lying at the northeast intersection of <br />College Street and Railroad Street, to "M-1 <br />Industrial"; and <br />(2) a lot lying immediately north of, and adjacent to, <br />the above-mentioned new lot, being on the east side <br />of College Street, to "C-3 Commercial". <br /> <br />In connection with an application for a special-use permit, recently filed <br /> <br />by the City's Electric Department to allow the construction of an electric <br /> <br />substation on the rear portion of a lot at the southwest corner of Starling <br /> <br />and Aaron Streets, and in tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission's <br /> <br />report (dated April 4, 1969) recommending granting of said permit, Council <br /> <br />called for a duly-advertised public hearing to be conducted on this matter <br /> <br />by Council at its forthcoming May 13th meeting. <br /> <br />Through Mr. Herbert O. Hughes, City Recreation Director, Council was <br /> <br />apprised of the recent recognition given two local citizens, as follows, <br /> <br />by the Virginia Recreation & Parks Society, with appropriate plaques <br /> <br />thereof being presented by Mayor Renick: <br /> <br />(1) To Mr. Victor B. Calaman - for many years of volunteer services <br />devoted to local youth recreational programs; and <br /> <br />(2) To Mr. Connie R. Hill - a special citation, being the first and <br />only such citation ever awarded, for outstanding services to <br />the local Recreation Department and its recreational programs. <br />
