After further discussion, Council <br /> <br />directed that this matter be placed on the agenda for Council's next <br /> <br />regular meeting, meanwhile requesting Mr. McGhee to prepare a written <br /> <br />study report, supported by such visual aids as necessary as well as <br /> <br />statistical data, for Council's information and consideration. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged, with regrets, receipt of letter (dated January 23, <br /> <br />1969) from Mr. Thornton G. Wampler, as notice of his resignation-- <br /> <br />effective immediately--as a member of the City School Board, prompted <br /> <br />by Mr. Wampler's having accepted a position in another city within the <br /> <br />State. <br /> <br />The foregoing matter being on the agenda, along with an indication of <br /> <br />interest on the p~rt of a certain business firm to purchase the former <br /> <br />City Hall site on East Main Street, Council adjourned to an Executive <br /> <br />Session to discuss these matters, viz., to consider the naming of an <br /> <br />appointee to replace Mr. Wampler on the City School Board and to receive-- <br /> <br />and consider~-the contemplated offer of said business firm to purchase the <br /> <br />City Hall site. Council noted that consideration of these and like matters <br /> <br />in executive sessions are permitted under the State statutes. Council <br /> <br />also directed that an adjourned session be convened--for the purpose of <br /> <br />acting upon either or both of these matters--upon call of Mayor Renick. <br /> <br />Council was adjourned. <br /> <br />-2 ~"" '~__' ~ <br />w.
