t ~ ; ~
)-.il.d

TUESDAY

OCTOBER 8. 1968

The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville,

Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday,

October 8, 1968, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M.,

all members being present, viz., Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D.; Vice-Mayor

Francis T. West; Harry L. Boaz; W. Donald Hartford; and Wm. D. Hobson.

After the invocation, COllncil approved as recorded the minutes of its regular

meeting held September 26, 1968.

Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing

on the proposed rezoning of property owned by Custer & Custer Sporting Goods,

located on the west side of Liberty Street near and adjoining the City's

north corporate limits, as requested by the owner(s) and as approved by the

Planning Commission. There being no objections registered by anyone to this

proposed rezoning, Council adopted the following ordinance effecting said

rezoning and amending the City's Zoning Code and Zoning Map:

BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia,
in regular meeting assembled this eighth day of October, 1968, that
the City'z Zoning Code and Zoning Map be, and are hereby, amended
to reclassify--for z.oning purposes--to "C-1 Commercial" that property
owned by Custer & Custer Sporting Goods, situated on the west side of
Liberty Street within and at the north corporate limits of the City.

Continuing its discussion from its September 26th meeting of the State's

proposed issuance of $81,000,000.00 bonds for mental and educational

facilities, subject to election to be held November 5, 1968, Council cited

the benefits to be derived from the bond program, if approved, both

state-wide and locally; however, because of the question of the propriety

of the Council's placing an official "stamp of approval" and its implication,

Council refrained from officially endorsing the program but, instead, commended

it to the local voters by adopting the following resolution:
