<br />') () <br />,..j ) <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />FEBRUARY 13, 1968 <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />which a license tax is required under this ordinance, who fails to <br />display the license plate as required herein, shall be guilty of a <br />misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by a fine <br />not exceeding twenty dollars ($20.00). <br /> <br />Any ordinance of the City of Martinsville heretofore passed which is <br />in conflict with this ordinance is hereby repealed. <br /> <br />An emergency existing, this ordinance shall be in force on March 15, <br />1968. <br /> <br />Through Mr. Cary J. Randolpn, Attorney at Law, Dr. F. P. Turner, Sr., requested <br /> <br />the rezoning of his property at 704 Starling Avenue from "H-6 Residential" to <br /> <br />"C-2 Commercial" for the use of a local fraternal organization which has a <br /> <br />ninety-day option (from January 9, 1968) to purchase this property to develop <br /> <br />for its own usage provided it is so rezoned. Council referred this petition <br /> <br />to the Planning Commission for its consideration and recommendation. <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of Public Works Director George W. Brown, being in <br /> <br />accordance with policy established and applied in similar instances, Council <br /> <br />authorized the furnishing of a sewer connection (free of charge) to Martinsville <br /> <br />Steel & Iron Company, outside the City's corporate limits, in lieu of the City's <br /> <br />paying the standard fee for sewer line easements outside the corporate limits, <br /> <br />as would otherwise have been necessary, for a sewer line easement across this <br /> <br />firm's property near Jones Creek. Council's authorization included the require- <br /> <br />ment that this connection and usage thereof conform to the City's applicable <br /> <br />regulations and requirements, including the appropriate sewer service tariff. <br /> <br />Mr. T. J. Childress, Jr., called Council's attention to the recently-announced <br /> <br />statement by three area funeral establishments that they will soon discontinue <br /> <br />ambulance service, which poses the question--if the remaining firms also <br />
