Upon Council's authorization, Mayor Renick appointed the <br /> <br />following citizens to constitute such a Board: Mr. Thomas J. Burch (Chair- <br /> <br />man), Mr. R. A. Henderson, Jr., and Mr. J. E. (Dick) Jones. <br /> <br />Pursuant to request of Mr. Walter H. Hagood, Chairman of the Retail Merchants <br /> <br />Associa tion f s Promotion Committee, Council authorized llfree customer parking" <br /> <br />on February 22, 1967, at all City parking meters--excepting the 12-minute <br /> <br />meters--between 9:00 A.M. and 5:30 P.M., in connection with the merchants' <br /> <br />forthcoming "George Washington Birthday Sale" project, similar to that of <br /> <br />1966. <br /> <br />City Manager Noland informed Council that the City's application for bus <br /> <br />equipment funds from the Federal Government (Mass Transportation Funds) has <br /> <br />not yet received final approval. <br /> <br />Dr. C. J. Mathes, Director of the Martinsville-Henry County Health Department, <br /> <br />presented a check in the amount of $487.85 from the Commonwealth of Virginia, <br /> <br />representing the Cityfs pro-rata share or refund of un-used funds budgeted <br /> <br />for personnel during the year ended June 30, 1966. <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of Dr. Mathes, and after having received from Dr. Mathes <br /> <br />a progress report on the program designed to eradicate rodents from sanitary <br /> <br />sewers and other locations, Council authorized the expenditure of funds-- <br /> <br />approximately $80.00--to llre-bait" these locations. <br />
