] ~

TUESDAY

DECEMBER 27. 1966

The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville,

Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday, December

27, 1966, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M. All

members of Council were present, viz., Dr. F. T. Renick (Mayor); E. E. Stone

(Vice-Mayor); Harry L. Boaz; W. Donald Hartford; and Francis T. West.

After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its

regular meeting held December 13, 1966.

Upon the occasion of the retirement (effective December 31, 1966) of Mr. Jesse

W. Chambers, Caretaker at the City's Water Impounding Reservoir since June

16, 1956, and in recognition of his faithful and efficient service as an

employee, Council presented Mr. Chambers with a check, in the amount of

fifty ($50.00) dollars.

In connection with the Patrick Henry PTA's Safety Committee's traffic

safety requests filed with Council on November 22, 1966, City Manager Noland

suggested that owners of property along the north side of East Church Street

Extended, from the First Presbyterian Church to Booker Road, be invited to

file a petition for sidewalk construction (on a shared-cost basis) along

said north side for Council's consideration in its forthcoming 1967-68 budget.

City Manager Noland also informed Council that a blinker signal light, if in

the City's stock, can be installed at the intersection of Booker Road and

East Church Street Extended within the near future. Upon motion, Council

unanimously accepted the Ma~agerls suggestions, thereby authorizing the

extending of an invitation to the property owners to file a petition for

said sidewalk construction (on a shared-cost basis) for consideration during

the 1967-68 budget preparation. Contingent upon the outcome of this petition

would be the requested cross-walk opposite the school's East Church Street entrance.
