<br />~4 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JULY 26. 1966 <br /> <br />that the Committee would be enlarged and would not only consider the <br /> <br />proposed ordinance but, within a period of the next sixty days, would <br /> <br />hope to persuade local business firms and industries voluntarily to make <br /> <br />SllCh improvements in their boiler operations as to abate certain offensive <br /> <br />conditions and thereby make it unnecessary for the enacting of regulatory <br /> <br />measures. <br /> <br />In receiving from City Manager Noland a status report on arrangements in <br /> <br />process with the Federal Government for the purchase of seven new 35-passenger <br /> <br />busses, Council was informed that the authorized application for Federal <br /> <br />financial assistance has been filed and that, in order to be assured of <br /> <br />delivery of these busses this year, an order for the purchase of these <br /> <br />busses should be placed, subject to receiving of Federal assistance. Accordingly, <br /> <br />upon motion, Council unanimously adopted the following resolution authorizing <br /> <br />the placing of a conditional order for said busses: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to authority of Martinsville City Council, by <br />resolution dated June 28, 1966, the City Manager of the City of <br />Martinsville has filed an application with the Department of Housing <br />& Urban Development of the United States Government for financial <br />assistance toward the cost of purchasing seven new 35-passenger <br />busses to be operated for local public transit purposes, under the <br />Urban Mass Transportation Act of 1964; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Martinsville has appropriated <br />sufficient funds as its share of the estimated cost of said busses; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, bids have been received from The Flxible Company and the <br />GMC Truck & Coach Division of General Motors Corporation, with the <br />bid of the GMC Truck & Coach Division of General Motors Corporation <br />having been adjudged as being the lower of the two bids; now, <br />therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this twenty-sixth day of July, 1966, <br />that Thomas B. Noland, City Manager of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, be and is hereby authorized to place an order for seven <br />new 35-passenger busses with the GMC Truck & Coach Division of <br />General Motors Corporation, pursuant to specifications in the City's <br />invitation for bids and pursuant to bid submitted by said GMC Truck <br />& Coach Division, with said order being subject to and contingent <br />upon the receiving by the City of Martinsville of Federal financial <br />
