,1 \...

TUESDAY

APRIL 26, 1966

Mr. Robert penk and other representatives of Continental Can Company appeared

before Council, in connection with several informal conferences with Council

during the past several months and in connection with Continental Can Company1s

interest in purchasing a tract of land in the City's Industrial Park to relocate

its Martinsville plant. As a result of these conferences, Council established

certain per-acre prices on portions of the 42-acre tract centered around the

former airport runway, with Continental Can Company tentatively agreeing to

purchase the eastern half of this tract (consisting of approximately twenty-one

acres) at $5,000.00 per acre, as offered by Council. Upon acceptance by

Continental of Council's offer, Council agreed to provide right-of-way for a

proposed Norfolk & Western Railway siding to the tract and to assist Continental

Can Company--where possible--in securing an industrial access road to the

proposed site.

Council was adjourned.

l.~~,~-~_

w.
