')r

-

TUESDAY

OCTOBER 26, 1971

-

Through City Manager Noland and Public Works Director George W. Brown

came the suggestion and recommendation that the City's Street Thoroughfare

Plan be revised and amended, as follows, whereupon Council referred this

matter to the Planning Commission:

In lieu of the Thoroughfare Plan's proposed extension of Stultz

Road from a point at or near the City's northwest corporate

,,~

limits in a direct line east to Route 108 (Figsboro Road),

revise and amend same to provide for a future relocation of

a portion of Stultz Road and future improvement thereof to

connect with Liberty Street at Clearview Drive.

In response to City Manager Noland's inquiry, indicating that numerous

telephone inquiries have been received from the public as to whether the

forthcoming Halloween observance is to be celebrated on Saturday night,

October 30th, instead of Sunday night, October 31st, on which latter

date it is celebrated by custom and calendar, Council took no action

on this matter, thereby ordering no change from the customary date. Council

was informed by the Police Department that said department has arranged

its schedule and plans toward the observance of this occasion on October 31st.

In response to Mr. D. B. McCullough's suggestion that the Carolina & Northwestern

grade crossing on Northside Drive, near Hooker Furniture Company's plant, be

improved, especially in view of the improvements currently being made to

Northside Drive, Council was informed that such crossing improvements are

contemplated in conjunction with other contemplated improvements in that area.
