"."-"

1

TUESDAY

NOVEMBER 24, 1970

(7) Complaints from local merchants as to:

(a) collection by City forces of trash and garbage at places
of business -- somewhat haphazard and incomplete, in that
some trash and refuse are left strewn around, thus
counteracting the good results mentioned in item (l)
above; and

(b) The "Pactainers" used at some places of business are not
cleaned before returning to their collection locations and,
also, have become unsightly because of lack of maintenance.

Through Mayor Renick, Council received an inquiry from a local citizen as to

the City's policy on collecting leaves where raked by property owners to the

street right-of-way. City Manager Noland advised that limited funds and

equipment allow the City to provide no scheduled leaf-collection service, as

such, and the City's efforts are limited to attempting to collect such leaves

as may accumulate from time to time upon those streets which have curb-and-gutter.

Mayor Renick, with Council's concurrence, suggested that study be given this

problem in the hope that a scheduled pick-up or collection service might be

provided the citizens.

Mayor Renick and Council discussed with City Manager Noland the present

garbage~and-refuse collection services and practices, meanwhile suggesting

that the City Manager study and investigate--as he indicated that he had already

planned to do--certain recently-installed systems wherein plastic bags or containers

are being used, thus making unnecessary the transporting of garbage cans to and

from the street-collection points.

Council was adjourned.

(\ ~~
w.
