.04
; .}

TUESDAY

JULY 9, 1974

adopted the following ordinance amending the City's Zoning Map to the extent of rezoning

to "R-9 Residential" the 74-acre portion of the 78-acre tract, meanwhile suggesting that

the Planning Commission designate or recommend a "light commercial" zoning for the

remaining four acres.

BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsvil1e, Virginia,
in regular meeting assembled this ninth day of July, 1974, that the
Zoning Map of the City of Martinsville be, and is hereby, amended to
rezone to llR-9 Residential" approximately 74 acres of a 78-acre tract
owned by Evelyn H. Stone, Trustee, and situated west of Rives Road
Extended and/or west of other properties fronting the west side of
Rives Road Extended, between the City's south corporate limits and
the right-of-way of the Norfolk & Western Railway within the City
to a point which would leave unchanged (as to present zoning) a
triangular tract of land, consisting of approximately four acres
situated between said Norfolk & Western Railway right-of-way and
the northwest side of said Rives Road Extended near and opposite
the intersection of Morrison Street with Rives Road Extended.

Council accepted with appreciation a donation of $10,000.00 from the Mutinsville Community

Recreation Association toward the cost of installing lights for the Martinsville Senior

High School baseball field.

Upon being informed that the West Piedmont Planning District Commission has appointed a

local citizen, as an at-large member, to the Commission's Housing Committee, subject to

confirmation by City Council, members of Council took exception not to the individual

selected by WPPDC but, rather, to the method or procedure being followed by WPPDC in

such cases as this, viz., that, while technically the appointments are made by the local

governing body, the Planning District Commission selects appointees in advance of an

opportunity being given the local governing body to consider individuals for such

appointments. Council continued this matter for study, meanwhile suggesting to City Manager

Noland that he advise the Executive Director of WPPDC of Council's position in this matter.

Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council indicated its willingness to

--,------"..."".-_._--,..,."------"...,_..'"'_._~~".-

. ,_ ""~*,.'"~~"..""~'<<""M"'..""~_,_,.,'. .."..,_,_..,~,_.,_.."n,_">.'",.,_".....,
