:86

--

~~

TUESDAY

JUNE 11, 1974

In tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission's reconnnendation that the

petition of Logan Gray, Inc., requesting the rezoning of property at 100

Starling Avenue from llR-6 Residential" to llP_2 Professional", be approved,

Council called for a duly-advertised public hearing on said petition at

Council's regular meeting scheduled for Tuesday, July 23, 1974.

Council acknowledged receipt of the resignation of Mr. J. Berkley Travis

as a member of the City Welfare Board (effective June 30, 1974) for reasons

expressed by Messrs. James L. Lavinder, H. F. Haymore, Jr., and William R.

Windle in their resignations submitted May 28, 1974; whereupon, by motion

(duly seconded and unanimously carried), Council accepted these resignations,

meanwhile expressing appreciation of the services rendered and a sympathetic

understanding of the frustrations encountered by the Board since its inception

last year; and, also, Council abolished said Board effective June 30, 1974.

In connection with his proposed 1974-75 City Budget, City Manager Noland

informed Council that through some reductions in salary accounts and a

reduction in the proposed Welfare budget, plus an increased anticipated surplus

in the School Fund and a proposed revision of the City's utility tax on

electric service customers, said proposed budget could be balanced. At this

point, at the request of the City Manager, Council went into Executive Session

to receive reports from the City Manager concerning personnel and salaries,

after which (Session) Council reconvened into regular session, announcing that

said reports had been received but required no action. Then, upon motion

(duly seconded and unanimously carried), Council placed said proposed budget

(as revised) on first reading and called for a duly-advertised public hearing

thereon to be held at Council's forthcoming June 25th meeting.

Council was adjourned.

~.~'
W. H. a~ n, Clerk of Council
